DMA: You assume that I'm a big fan of Clinton. When you do such, you make an ASS of U and ME. Clinton's 8-year record has its plusses and minuses. Big Bill will continue to head the Democratic Party only for a short while longer (before he is named the new head of the United Nations). At some point Clinton will be forced to turn over the party reins to one (or more) of any number of young, bright, electable Democrats, such as Bayh of Indiana, the unrelated Kerreys of Massachusetts and Nebraska, Gray Davis of California. Contrast those four with Burton, Barr, Livingston, "Bugs" DeLay, Helms, Kay Bailey Hutchinson, the former "Hook 'em Horns" cheerleader, Gingrich, etc. By 2004, the vast majority of the country will be looking for a fresh start ... not so much because of Bush, who is doing an OK job, in my opinion, but because of the stale ideas forwarded by the GOP leadership in Congress. GOP resistance to McCain campaign finance reform will hurt the Repubs. Everyone wants it save George Will and Mitch McConnell.
By the way, did you catch Barbra's special last night ... specifically the part where she and Clinton exchanged hugs on the big screen? |
