Fyo, HotRail had some good ideas. Most notably, they were pushing for a switched fabric SMP topology based on HotRail Channels, or HRC. Interestingly enough, HRC is very similar to LDT/HyperTransport. I don't know what ultimately caused them to cancel their plans for an Athlon/HRC platform, but I guess shooting for 8-way from the beginning was indeed biting off more than they can chew.
