The Jesuits were the first to evangelize Japan, and brought the silk worms to Europe. I cannot say about the opium trade. The Christian community in Japan, which was small, was persecuted and crucified in Nagasaki, and evangelical activity was banned by the Shogun. There was also Jesuit activity in other areas of Asia, especially in conjunction with Portugese colonies.

It is true that Jesuits were missionaries among various Indian tribes in French America. I cannot say if they incited the Hurons, I would have to look that up. In any event, even if they were radical in some sense, they were so only under discipline, and to advance the perceived interests of the Catholic Church, not as free- lance protesters......
