Nortel cuts forecasts, sees deeper
U.S. downturn

TORONTO, Feb 15 (Reuters) - Nortel Networks Corp.
(NYSE:NT - news) on Thursday ratcheted down its forecast for growth in revenue and
earnings per share for 2001 by about half to the 10 to 15 percent range, saying the
economic downturn in the United States will continue well into the fourth quarter...




Mark,

A lot of this is becoming company specicic in my opinion. Consumer spending is up. In fact, it is way up. The explanation for the growth in the January numbers was sales to reduce inventory. I don't buy that excuse. No pun intended. The consumer is back in full force and they drive the economy so let's keep an eye on this.
