Re: 1.75V vs. 1.7V for 1.7GHz P4...

Increasing voltage to stabilize the next bin of a microprocessor is a technique as old as microprocessors itself. It is also the rosharch test for cleerleaders and detractors everywhere... When AMD jacked up core voltages to get to 1.0GHz (I seem to remember 1.8V or so), the AMD people patted themselves on the back for their creativity. The pro-AMD sites glossed it over, and if any Intel person had the audacity to imply anything bad about the scalability of the processor, the pat response was "it's a testament to the quality of the AMD 0.18 micron process that they can set a high core voltage."

So rather than pick nits, why don't we discuss something substansive???
