I understand what you are saying about SATB. It does give you the feeling that you are still in the game and have neutralized your position and can wait,risk-free, for the trend to develop. I think it may be a bit of an illusion. The problem is that you must leg out to make anything happen. You have to go either long or short alone depending on your reading of the trend. So you go from two positions to one. At that point, you could achieve the same result by going from no positions to one. I don't see what is gained by SATB that you can't get by sitting in cash and going long or short based on your reading. The SATB negatives are.....short proceeds normally don't earn interest, the long costs reduce your cash available to earn interest and you pay four commissions to establish and unwind the play. JMO.
