Are you putting the same value on the "right" to drive and the "right" to drink alcoholic beverages as the potential or probability of that 4 week old fetus growing into a man or woman.
Is it any less odd to think that the 30 year old can poop his knickers in a sales conference and be cleaned up by the secretaries than the 5 year old getting away with it in kindergarten. I don't see these as "rights"....I see them as times of life opportunities.
So far the argument has been that "it's my body and I control what happens to it. I have a right to abort." Personally I think this is the weakest of all arguments for abortion.
The number of abortions necessary for medical, incestial and criminal reasons are small. The number of abortions as a means to make ones life easier to enjoy is huge. The number of abortions necessary due to FAILED contraception is also small. When abortion is used as the safety net for careless intimacy, it cheapens life beyond measure.
Is it any wonder, that in a society where the unborn has so little value to so many, that large scale moral decay would not be the result? Tell me that your life today is surrounded by the same level of decency of the civilization that was 30 years ago. Mine sure isn't. And it's not that I haven't taken many steps to make it the way it was decades ago. I suggest that society not be the yard stick by which we measure what is acceptable behavior. I suggest we look truthfully at the matter of abortion and ask, who will this child be? What will be the consequence of his life. Why must his life be stopped. Is this abortion a matter of convenience?
