I'll look into the reference. The friend who sent me the article from The Guardian
also sent me excerpts from a newsletter that his friend publishes. He also said the same thing: you can find
stories in the press about the 2000 election outside of the US that you won't find here.

Evidently, the Washington Post will publish a book about the Florida election. Recently,
they published articles about it which was mentioned in this newsletter. I didn't read
the articles because I've been sick with the flu so I guess I'll have to wait until the
book comes out. I believe it will come out in February!

I can send you this guy's comments about the Washington's Post's article via PM, however.

The newsletter also mentioned that Mr. Kettle from the US's Guardian
also wrote an article for the the Washington Post in January.

He highlighted the points Mr. Kettle made in the article:

"In January Kettle wrote a piece in the WPost about mounting
anti-Americanism. That's beyond the understandable world laughter
at the American election fiasco.

But a new anti-Americanism, different from the anger with
military arrogance during the Vietnam war, is gaining momentum. It started
while Clinton was president. It will grow with Bush.

"Americans have now acquired a president who uniquely embodies many of
the interests and assumptions that are helping to feed the growing global
alienation from American values and policy. He is an energy unilateralist
(a friend adds: including toward California where his administration's
initial response is idiotic.)

He (Bush) is an opponent of the International Criminal Court.

He is a defender of the gun culture. He was the leader of the leading
death-penalty state. He is an advocate of the most far-reaching
versions of national missile defense. He was also the overwhelming beneficiary of a
tarnished election."
.................................................************...........................................................

Is their a "new civility"? Is that why the Press is so quiet about Bush? Still, they save
their venom for the Clintons. As far as I know the Press never made a big deal
about all the gifts that Bush probably hauled in when he was elected President nor the huge contributions
that rolled in on his Inauguration. The Press hardly noticed the $100,000 contributions on Inaugural Day.
That kind of money bought appointments to committees. I see someone who donated
$100,000 who works for EMC was appointed to a committee. Let's hope he knows something
about what he is suppose to do.

To believe that Mr. and Mrs. Bush did not receive gifts when he was elected or to believe that
he did not receive gifts for his Inaugural would be naive, in my opinion.
