As far as I am concerned the only relevant benchmark is the set of apps I am running on which my livelyhood depends. At the moment one of those apps happens to be HSPICE from Avanti. My understanding is that Athlon at 1.2 GHz runs circles around P4 1.5 GHz with this app. I find is extremely difficult to believe that Avanti, being the arrogant EDA vendor that it is, will compile HSPICE for P4 using SSE2 because P4 x86 FPU sucks.
That's my take on benchmarks.
