well, i'm long gold AND short stocks, though only via puts now...i have bought the painful decline in the miners late last year when they were hit by tax loss selling, thereby reducing my average entry price quite a bit. in several positions i am showing decent returns now, so it was the right thing to do.

look at a chart of the HUI - you'll have to agree it's a CLASSIC...break-out, test, resumption of rally...and all with gold near 20 year lows.
