While AMD did use Intel's C++ compiler for Integer scores (why not, it's the best compiler out there) Athlon FP scores used the Compaq Fortran compiler which includes K7 optimizations. Those FP scores showed a 17% delta, base to peak for Athlon, while P4 showed a 2% delta.
