If you owned a lot and the prices actually went up why would you want to sell agressively?

Why not sell a little at a time on the way up? That's what I will do. But of course if it is more profitable to form a monopoly as the bullion banks have, and sell call options for example as your dumping large quantities on the market and spreading negative news (lies?) then maybe I can see why they would sell aggresively.

I have many reasons to expect that price of gold will steadily increase of here, with the wild card that a significant scientific discovery will be made finding new applications for gold that could be a critical technology for example going forward, just as it has been critical to the advancement of electronics industry over the last 20 years.
