Cypress Energy Symbol: CYZ.A H/L Ratio: 2.23 (Feb. 9) Relative Price Strength: 94.6 Outstanding shares: 41,500,253
Junior oil exploration and production company Cypress Energy is growing revenues and earnings by leaps and bounds. Revenues up 181% in 1998, up another 129% in 1999. 2000 figures have not yet been released but trailing figures to June 2000 showed a more than double increase and the quarter ended Sept. 30th was up 92% over the previous year. Earnings have more than kept pace.
Like most Canadian oilpatch companies, Cypress operates principally in Alberta. And along with internal growth, the company is in acquisition mode. The company announced plans in late January to acquire Ranchero Energy. 60% of Ranchero's production is natural gas.
In December Cypress announced it will re-purchase 9.9% of its outstanding stock in the next year in a normal course issuer bid.
Worth Checking Out
Other stocks of interest to check out are Avid Oil and Gas (numbers similar to Cypress but with a much lower P/E ratio), Tethys Energy, Cott Corporation (which recently issued an excellent quarterly report), Acktion Corporation (real estate), Spar Aerospace, Scotiabank, Tiverton Petroleum, Trilon Financial, Ketch Energy, BelAir Energy, Petromet Resources (which is being touted as a possible takeover target), Player Petroleum, Storm Energy, Olympia Energy, Compton Petroleum, Southward Energy, Global Election Systems and Hillsborough Resources. The last is a penny stock which owns most of the Quinsam Coal Mine. With energy prices high, coal is benefitting as well as people switch to save money.
