The Fed raised interest rates and choked off the recovery.

LOL. This is a myth of the ignorant. The Fed lowered rates five or six times at the beginning of the 1930s, down to about 1 1/2%. DIDN'T MATTER. Just like Japan lowered rates to ZERO and it DIDN'T MATTER. The damage was done in the mid 1920s due to a credit bubble that resulted in hoards of malinvestments and overcapacity. Just like today.
