This positions them to be beneficiaries of technological developments as they become available, rather than being behind the eight ball when the

Don't leave us hanging here. When the what? When the SHTF? When the existing supply of fiber on the long haul turns from a two lane road into a super freeway with virtually unlimited bandwidth? When telepathic communication obviates the need for light on glass?

Recall Say's law: supply creates its own demand.

The corollary to that might be, What hardware giveth, software taketh away. I think we all look forward to the day when communication over a computer network is no longer a function of a rectangular two dimensional screen with a keyboard interface.

That requires getting out of the long haul where returns are rapidly diminishing and getting in where the carriers need a low cost flexible solution.

I agree with you that SCMR should be concentrating on the metro/mesh where their products provide the best solutions. Do you think SCMR might simply be in the long haul to round out their product line for those customers who are uncomfortable mixing more than one vendor for support reasons?

OTOH we live in a country where 80% of the population lives within 300 miles of either coast and there is 2000+ miles between. As much as the East and West coasts try to divorce themselves from the other, an enormous amount of information flows between them. Add to this, that the business of creating stuff which contains electrons, as opposed to bits, is mostly manufactured half a world away.
