Just as a Pentium 4 is coming out this fall, a high-end Xeon equivalent code-named Foster also is due, Intel has said in the past. Today, though, the company talked about another new model, called Gallatin.

Foster due someday, yes, but not concurrent with P4. The authors (Stephen Shankland and Michael Kanellos) used wiggle words. They didn't say due then, as in Q4'01, just due. As for the Register article, it would never stand up anywhere. I know that Intel's key customers for Foster were never expecting it before 2001.
