IMO, Sun's desktop business is likely to be decimated by WINTEL.
The NC initiative and JAVA have been already been co-opted by Wintel.

However,the NET PC may help Sun's high end server business over the next two to three years. It will take MERCED sometime to get out and penetrate the high end server business. JAVA helps Sun by placing a greater reliance on the server. Sun sells high end servers.
This is their core business.
