Hello Mark,

Do not know if this has ever been discussed and I have not been on SI much recently so I have not kept track. Hoping that you or someone here might help though. I suspect that I may have a Registry problem but let me outline the issue.
----------------
System
Running W2K (ServicePak 1 installed) with twin FP monitors, 733 MHz dual processors, 256MB RIMM 1X128 Rambus Memory, Intellimouse, and a Matrox G400 Video Card.

Problem
On power up the mouse cursor jumps erratically, changing task bar size, opening small windows. May only be shut down with Task Manager or the power button. Will come back up in Safe mode, and sometimes without changing anything will then re-boot properly.

Recent History
Installed SystemWorks from Symantec last week. For whatever reason I ran Speed Disk last Thursday. The first time I brought the machine down and re-booted this problem occurred. I un-installed Norton's SystemWorks but this problem still is with me.

Attempted Fixes, thus far
-Changed the driver for Intellimouse to PS/2 mouse. Worked on next re-boot, failed afterwards.
-Re-installed Norton and ran CHKDSK from Systemworks. No help.
-Inserted Dell's Product Recovery CD. My son worked on that, so I do not know the particulars but it evidently failed to solve the problem.

========================

Seems to me that this problem came up before, probably sometime last summer. However I cannot recall what we (here in my office) did to repair it. Have you any ideas?
