US DVD player sales up, 235.1% in the latest week............

Vital Statistics - 2/13/2001
DVD sales are on the rise. According to VideoScan’s First Alert Reporting Retailers, for the week ending, Feb. 4, 2001, DVD title sales were 1,922,000, up from last week’s sales of 1,769,000. Year-to-date DVD sales are a healthy 9,936,000!

According to the Consumer Electronics Association (CEA), for the week and month ending Feb. 2, 2001, DVD player unit sales to dealers were 183,009, up 235.1 percent from sales during this week in 2000, despite the fact that sales were down from last week’s 242,950. Year-to-date sales are 755,040, up 77.8 percent over 2000 sales.

VCR deck sales were also up for the week and month at 449,949, up 96.3 percent over 2000 sales. However, year-to-date sales are 1,210,169, down (-10.8) percent from 2000 sales.
