The difficulty is that life is still good here. If one takes crime out of the equation, and one has a job or a source of income, then life here is possibly better than anywhere. The situation is tantamount to a fly drowning in honey. If things were really lousy, one would simply leave as a refugee and take one's chances wherever one went.

SA actually dismounted the "colonial tiger" 50 years ago. The problem was, unfortunately, that it remounted a racial wolf!
