Scumbria,,, Re..who bombed Iraq, alienated NATO, and commanded a military which sank a Japanese tourist boat last week.<<<<<
I forgot to answer the second half of your sentence. While I would agree there are reasons against bombing, there are also reasons for bombing, and on the whole could easily outweigh the negative.
One is to send Saddam a message. There is a new sheriff in town, and while Bill had basically ignored Irag for the last two yrs.; GW needed to send a new message.
Secondly, in order to end the sanctions you need to bargain, and it is better to bargain from a hand of strength. If Saddam believes the Us is weak, he will never negotiate a reasonable end to the sanctions.
Thirdly. Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Egypt, Jordan, etc. while saying publically they disagree, privately many of these countries still need US protection and want Saddam contained. However, they also cannot afford to upset the militants and terrorist. So, one should watch what they do and not what they say.
With new leaders in Lebanon and Jordan, Saddam is the only leader who can give the Palestinions military support. Downsizing Irag might also downsize the palestinions., and force a ceasefire with Israel
And of course, there is also the reason, the Air force wanted the radar sites taken out. |
