Just to allay your fear of me, I don't personally own a gun, but I do advocate in the strongest possible terms the right to keep and bear arms as spelled out in our Constitution and in the experience of history's totalitarian dictatorships, whatever you want to call them, Communists, Fascists, Nazis, etc.
In case you get your demented way with guns, then you will have to watch out for knives, swords, baseball bats... Criminals by definition are not law-abiding and will acquire whatever means necessary to accomplish crimes. Of course it is infinitely easier if their prey is known to be helpless. Don't believe for a minute that usable firearms or other lethal weapons can't be fabricated by anyone with the will to do so. The only thing confiscation of legal guns will accomplish is the decline of civilization into a new Dark Age morass of might-makes-right tribes at best, or worse a Big Brother world orders of magnitude worse than "1984" predicted. You don't believe that the governments will give up their guns, do you? Or is that part of your Utopia, too? |
