When talking about the History of Jazz , Ken Burns is relating how almost unanimously all the people were in agreement that Louis Armstrong was a "Gift from God " .... "An angel sent from above", and other awe inspiring remarks coming from everyone who knew him famous or the non-famous.
Hardly any other American figure received this almost mystical unanimous approval... and his far reaching influence on changing of the musical scene and on our collective American consciousness , (except for Abraham Lincoln ), the famous documentary maker Burns notes in "Jazz" ....
Funny, amazing little Valentine that he was , when Ella Fitzgerald was asked if Louis was an "angel" ,
she could only reply:
