>>Pirelli (anybody know a symbol?)<<

Pirelli is an Italian company and its stock is not traded in the US market. As many on this thread know, CIEN is sued by Pirelli for infringing on 4 of Pirelli WDM patents. Pirelli is doing field trial of its WDM systems on the MCI network. One has to wonder if the British Telecom/MCI merger has no bearing in the selection of Pirelli by MCI. Recently, Deutsche Telecom and France Telecom announced their intention to take a majority stake in Sprint (they are presently minority owners of Sprint). If the deal is approved, the Sprint/Ciena relationship may be in jeopardy. Particularly, the newly elected French Socialist goverment is pushing for early inclusion of Italy to become an EMU member and is calling for Europewide job-creation pact.

Regards,

Tom
