QUALCOMM Demonstrates 1xEV Technology at 3GSM World Congress
1xEV Offers Wireless Internet Access for Third-Generation Services
CANNES, France--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 19, 2001--QUALCOMM Incorporated (Nasdaq: QCOM - news), pioneer and world leader of Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) digital wireless technology, today announced the Company will showcase a live demonstration of cdma2000 1xEV technology at the 3GSM World Congress in Cannes, France, February 20-23, 2001. The 1xEV demonstration will be conducted at QUALCOMM's booth in Hall 1, Booth No. E51 at the Palais des Festivals. 1xEV supports peak data rates up to 2.4 Mbps in a standard 1.25 MHz frequency channel.
The demonstration will consist of a base station and small, trial wireless modems attached to laptops, notebook computers and pocket PCs, performing Web browsing, e-mail, file downloads and applications such as streaming video, Internet games and telematics. 1xEV provides the highest spectral efficiency of any mobile, wireless wide-area network in existence today, resulting in the lowest cost per bit for data delivery.
1xEV's Internet protocol-based architecture and frequency independence allows it to be overlaid on various voice networks, including GSM, or work as a stand-alone system. 1xEV is compatible with cdmaOne(TM) and cdma2000 networks, thus leveraging existing product designs and enabling service providers to obtain higher capacities and superior performance by optimizing voice and data spectrum separately. 1xEV offers third-generation (3G) data services and meets the International Telecommunications Union's International Mobile Telecommunications 2000 (IMT-2000) requirements. 1xEV is an enhancement of the cdma2000 standard of the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA). The CDMA 1xEV specification was developed by the Third Generation Partnership Project 2 (3GPP2), a partnership consisting of five telecommunications standards bodies: CWTS in China, ARIB and TTC in Japan, TTA in Korea, and TIA in North America. The 1xEV specification is known as TIA/EIA/IS-856 ``CDMA2000 High Rate Packet Data Air Interface Specification.''
QUALCOMM will support the capabilities of 1xEV with integrated circuits and system software solutions for device and infrastructure equipment. QUALCOMM's device offerings provide manufacturers with the most advanced, feature-rich solutions available for high-speed wireless Internet services. |
