Project Marks Lucent's First Stinger DSL Platform Deployment in China
BEIJING--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 19, 2001-- Lucent Technologies today announced that it has been awarded a broadband access network expansion project by Guangzhou Telecom. Under the multi-million US dollars contract, Lucent will supply Guangzhou Telecom with its industry- leading Stinger(TM) digital subscriber line (DSL) access concentrators for Guangzhou, the provincial capital of Guangdong Province in Southern China. The contract represents Lucent's first sale of Stinger products in China.

The Stinger systems will be deployed in 60 locations, enabling Guangzhou Telecom to provide high-speed Internet access and other broadband services, such as video on demand, distance learning, and distance medical care, via asymmetric digital subscriber line (ADSL) technology. Guangzhou Telecom is deploying Lucent's ultra high-density Stinger FS and smaller-capacity Stinger LS DSL access concentrators. The ADSL broadband access network will be managed by Lucent's Navis(TM) network management system.
