The smallest hamburger at the Red Dog Saloon is a Texas Burger (my apologies to G.W.). We have the biggest bears, the biggest moose, the most caribou, the most square miles, the most ice, the lowest temperature, the eastern most point and the western most point in the 50 states, the shortest nights and the longest days, and the longest nights and the shortest days, the most cloud cover, the most rain, the most snow, the most mosquitos, the most fur trappers, the most subsistence fishers and hunters, and the most of everything else except roads and regular people. Our Governor is a Democrat who wants to cut timber and drill for oil in the ANWR. Our legislature is Republican. Alaska's the only state in the Union where everybody in the state gets paid a dividend from state resources and nobody pays state taxes (yet). The town where I live is the state capital and about two thirds of the people here are employed by the government or by a business that depends on the government. It is landlocked; two ways in and out. Anchorage has half the population of Alaska.
We also have the most environmentalists, but most of them don't live here. |
