Ron,

I think if you go back you will find that Nixon signed the real meat of the Great Society Legislation. He complained about never being given credit for what he achieved in this area.

You will also find that Reagan/Bush signed the major medicare legislation. The money bills have republican signatures. Republicans have always been proud of their defence of the social contract, at least when its to their benefit.

Ron, I do not feel that making demons out of the mentally ill, or young black girls with infant children is particularly relevant. (I am not accusing you of this.....just the prevalent screeching rhetoric) These people are not the problem, just the results of the problem. Focusing on them is a method of throwing a smoke screen.

The fact is that entitlements are a middle class balm. Entitlements are for the voting, politically participating, well off class of this nation. Entitlements are the bribe that lets the fix work.

The poor are disenfranchised. The poor get what ever it takes to keep them quiet. The poor do not matter. They don't vote. What they get is almost immaterial; other than the fact that it makes a great side show attraction.

regards,

Yorikke
