Do you happen to know the lift capability of various transport aircraft? I know a C-5 or a C-17 can carry 1 or 2 M1s. Both the Crusader and the Paladin are lighter then the M1 but I imagine that neither would be easily transported in large numbers.

From what I can see about the Crusader it looks like a good system. I don't know if it will really have the effectiveness of 6 M109A6s. For one thing it will probably be easier to destroy 1 Crusader even if it is better protected and/or faster then the M109A6s. Also while in theory it has 6 times the fire power in practice with the occasional auto-loader failure or other factors it might not actually have quite that much of an increase in firepower. Of course if its only 4 or 5 times more effective I can't see how that fact could be used as a put down of the gun. I'm fairly sure it will cost less then 4 to 5 times as much to buy and probably much less then that to operate and maintain. Overall it sounds like a great weapons system for our military. The only question (besides the all ready raised one about how easy it is to transport) would be how much does it cost? There are a lot of weapons proposals competing for a share of the defense budget which probably wont grow much even with Bush in office.
