BT fighting to salvage AT&T joint venture - FT

LONDON, Feb 20 (Reuters) - British telecommunications Plc (quote from Yahoo! UK & Ireland: BT.L) and AT&T (NYSE:T - news) are fighting to salvage failing Concert, their three-year old joint venture offering services to large corporate customers, the Financial Times reported on Tuesday.

``There is very regular contact over Concert because there is a feeling on both sides that we should be getting better value out of it,'' one source was quoted as saying.

Executives at AT&T were said to have suggested taking a majority control of the venture, and to have threatened to withdraw if a new structure cannot be agreed.

The U.S telecommunications group is thought to blame a lack of cooperation from BT's partially-owned subsidiaries outside Britain for Concert's failure to reach sales targets in Europe.

Last year, the companies attempted to revive the venture by injecting assets through a full merger of their business services divisions, but negotiations fell apart over price.

Concert was set up in July 1998 to provide telephone and Internet services to multinational companies.
