hi e

you did well thinking to disconnect the malfunctioning cable modem. i'm glad that you finally got through the defrag routine. what a chore, huh?

but keep in mind that your drive will become more optimized with each defragging and the time spent doing the maintenance will decrease. this will especially be true if you don't wait so long between defrags. <g3>

it will also be beneficial for you to delete temporary internet files (cache) next time prior to defragging. maybe clean out all the cookies that have been attaching themselves to your hd also. regular system maintenance of this nature will really start to pay you dividends in the form of enhanced pc performance.

i am very pleased to hear that you got this little prob fixed, and the fact that you were not forced to clean house was a real bonus.

keep in touch if you have more questions, e

:)
