As of 1/01/01, Amzn's institutional holding was increased to 50%(of it's outstanding shares) from 32%(as of 9/30/00).

Which means that -
Amzn's outstanding shares = 357M shares
Institutions' ownership = 178M shares
Amzn's float = 140M shares
Amzn's short interests = 44M shares
Retailers ownership = 6M shares (140M+44M-178M)

What do you think? Battles between the institutions and the shorts? Thanks!! (Of couse that we can guess that there is a large % of Arb-shorts for the convertible bonds).
