Jack, I was with you right up until this point:

So if our corporations and their CEOs were sluggish and unresponsive, with backward technology, our move into this recession would be progressing much more slowly? I don't follow this reasoning.

As far as the debt and the deficit, surely you noticed that Greenspan never took any great notice of decreasing debt, let alone decreasing deficit, before having that meeting with Dubya? Was that coincidence? I doubt it.

I'm curious about your comment that "we have just last month retired some billions in bonds." Is that a net change, or did we just retire a bunch of bonds and print a bunch more? And isn't that more closely related to the money supply than the balance of the government budget?

I've heard no credible mention whatsoever of an ACTUAL lower deficit, just a PROJECTED lower deficit. If you have, please spill!
