HONG KONG (Dow Jones)--The U.S. slowdown has been especially bad news for the Taiwan and South Korean economies, but you'd never know it from the bullish signals now being telegraphed by their stock markets.

Underlying these performances is the conventional wisdom that the U.S. is currently in the downward slope of a "V-shaped" cycle and that Asian electronic exporters will bounce right back up by midyear. "We're forecasting a fairly sharp bounce back in the second half of the year. It could be the stock market is discounting the bad news," said the Lehman economist.

At Monday's close, the Taiwan Weighted Index held a 25% gain so far this year, while the South Korean Kopsi was up 18%.
