Iraq: U.S. Air Raid Hit Civilians

UPI
Saturday, Aug. 12, 2000
BAGHDAD, Iraq – Iraq said Saturday that U.S. and British fighter jets raided residential and civilian areas in the southern "no-fly" zone overnight, killing and wounding a number of Iraqi civilians.
The official Iraqi News Agency quoted an unnamed military spokesman as saying that the Western air raids struck civilian installations in the southern city of Samawah in the Muthanna province, which lies in the southern "no-fly" zone imposed by the United States and Britain in 1991.

He said the overnight raids targeted and damaged food storages in Samawah, 170 miles (270 kilometers) south of the capital, Baghdad. He added that a number of civilians were killed and injured, but did not specify how many.

The United States and Britain have been regularly bombing Iraqi sites in the southern and northern "no-fly" zones since the end of their "Desert Fox" operations on Iraq.

Baghdad says 300 civilians have been killed and 900 others wounded during the raids. The Western countries insist they only strike Iraqi military targets after being fired upon during their reconnaissance flights over the "no-fly" zones.

Just because you haven't heard of them doesn't mean the air strikes don't exist. Note, this was done under your buddy Bill's reign.
