InterDigital Demonstrates Progress On 3G Products At 3GSM World Congress
CANNES, France--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 20, 2001--InterDigital Communications Corporation, a leading developer of advanced wireless technologies, this week is demonstrating how it can help companies migrate from existing second generation (2G) GSM mobile technology to third generation (3G) technology at the 3GSM World Congress in Cannes, France.
Speaking at 3GSM, InterDigital's President and Chief Executive Officer, Howard Goldberg, said: "InterDigital has made substantial progress in its 3G technology design. We helped to develop the technology that empowers current 2G systems and we are making significant contributions to the design of 3G technology, products and standards.
"We are well positioned to provide end-to-end systems to our customers and we offer them the ability to transfer robust technology in a proven, fully-tested manner which will speed their time to market.
"Coupled with our extensive portfolio of patented intellectual property, our technology development skills, systems integration capability and technology transfer processes position InterDigital as an ideal provider of end-to-end 3G systems."
Using a set of software tools, InterDigital is demonstrating its progress in the implementation of the 3G air interface. InterDigital is designing solutions for 3G System-on-a-Chip ASICs using W-CDMA technology for 3G mobile terminals and infrastructure.
As part of that effort, the Company specifically developed a baseband radio emulator to simulate a real radio environment in order to test the robustness of the algorithms that it has designed. These software, core technology and hardware demonstrations highlight the progress that InterDigital has made in developing its W-CDMA end-to-end systems.
In addition to demonstrating its progress in 3G wireless technology and product development, InterDigital is showing the efficiency of its technology transfer methodology. The Company is developing the air interface for both UMTS FDD (Frequency Division Duplex) and UMTS TDD (Time Division Duplex) protocols and is well positioned to transfer technology solutions to 3G equipment producers.
InterDigital is developing technology from a broad base of knowledge. The Company has a long heritage as a developer of digital wireless technologies and currently holds more than 1000 patents and patents pending worldwide for TDMA and CDMA digital wireless technologies.
InterDigital has made substantial contributions to the 3G standards and holds essential IPR (Intellectual Property Rights) within the 3G standard. InterDigital has helped to shape the W-CDMA standard.
InterDigital is creating innovative solutions for mainstream wireless applications, which deliver cost and time-to-market advantages for its customers. The Company has a strong portfolio of patented TDMA and CDMA inventions, which it licenses worldwide. For more information, please visit InterDigital's web site: www.interdigital.com
