OT: I would agree that the poor are not a terrific burden on society and that we could take care of them relatively well with the means at hands in our economy.

The real burden is the cumbersome social infrastructure and bureaucracy that the government has created in "assisting" the poor... That's the major drain. Bureaucracies, as I've stated, have a vested interest in growing their scope and maintaining their own job security. Were poverty to disappear, they would be out of a job, wouldn't they?

We could take the budget involved in entitlement programs and directly give it to most folks who are under the poverty level and make more of an impact on their lives.

I believe in empowering and assisting volunteer social assistance programs, because it enhances social service, as well as maximizes the amount of resources actually make it to the people who need it most.

This might be a good time to just say we agree to disagree and get ourselves back on topic.. I'd be happy to discuss this with via PM.

Regards,

Ron
