Well, the way we tested the speed was to download a 10Meg file and look at the speed shown on the FTP program. When we were d/ling, the cable modem has to wait to transfer the data to my harddrive. I believe that's where the slow down is. If there's enough memory, then the computer can cache more into the memory before transferring to the harddrive.

Here is a link that says that actual speed is dependent on CPU speed and network card.
