So far I have seen nothing that coerces people to say the pledge. The only coercion is for being disruptive.

We require children learn and repeat many things in school -- the multiplication tables, the alphabet, speeches from Hamlet, all designed to teach them things we want them to learn and including values we want to pass on to the next generation. Is there something wrong with teaching evolution in the school? Teaching the the earth is round, and flunking students who insist it is flat?

Is teaching students respect for each other okay, but teaching them respect for their flag not okay? Nonsense.

Is it acceptable to tech students them that love of the environment is good but love of their country is bad? Absurd.

Heck, if the civil libertarians want something to yell about, why don't they stop the coercion that requries students to be silent in the halls, the coercion that forces them on pain of delinquency and eventually jail to sit in classrooms all day long, all the thousands of other coercions we inflict on our children. Interesting that this is the only one I've ever seen you object to.

Edit: And next let's jail all those parents who try to inculcate politeness in their children by coercing them to say please and thank you all the time. EVIL PARENTS!!
