It's been posted many times on this thread, but it is so important, I'll risk annoying people and repeat it one more time.

Before you destroy your data, be sure you have...

A bootable floppy with files required by your system to read the CD. AND TEST IT!

Your Windows CD, along with the product key. (You will be asked to provide it.)

If your Windows is an upgrade, the earlier CDs too.

Floppy or CDs with every special driver you use.

A copy of every downloaded file, patch, utility, fix, or game you can't live without.

Your personal data on some removable media.

If you find yourself without any or all of these, you will be a very knowledgeable and proficient computer person long before your system ever runs smoothly again. Experience is a wonderful teacher, though a bit harsh.
