Orders are never flat, certainly not flat for 2 years. Semis are either building as fast as they can, or cancelling orders in droves. No middle ground. "Flat" is just a very temporary phase (a few months at most) between those two industry conditions. Besides, if Morgan won't give guidance past the end of his nose, how could VLSI see any further into the future?

I think the wisest thing that anyone can say about the semi-equip industry for the rest of 2001 is: "I don't know. I'm just trying to be prepared for a wide range of possibilities." That's what Morgan said.
