I'm totally with you Fred. Wouldn't telescoping frames collapse during minor hit's though? ie: rear ending someone might take a car out of the race instead of just cosmetic damage?

This sounds dumb also but what if the belts and seat were attached to something with a bit of forward give on high impact....say the seat and belts gave forward on tension about a foot so as not to have such a sudden stop?
