elmatador, this is interesting.
A small company called Telular holds patents in the US and several other countries that allow fixed line phones to connect to a unit via a RJ11 jack to send calls over the cellular network. The patent also includes generating a dial tone at the unit (no send key) their products cover GSM, CDMA and TDMA. Do you know if this unit generates a dial tone? I assume it must have a RJ11 jack. I am checking the links but it doesn't give much detail
