erdigital Communications' Chief Technology Officer Comments On the Future of Wireless Communications At 3GSM World Congress
CANNES, France--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 21, 2001--InterDigital Communications Corporation's (Nasdaq:IDCC) Chief Technology Officer, Dr. Alain Briancon, today discussed the future of wireless technology and the impact third generation (3G) products will have on consumers at the 3GSM World Congress in Cannes, France.
"The introduction of 3G will create a new experience for mobile users as it provides advanced capabilities that will alter the way we communicate in the office, at home and on the move--allowing instant access to high-speed data and voice worldwide. This will accelerate and accentuate our relationship with wireless technology," said Dr. Briancon. "In the 1960s, Marshall McLuhan made his famous aphorism that 'the medium is the message'. Wireless technology, in the 3G world, will saturate the everyday life of more and more consumers. This is the time where wireless technology will permeate the collective psyche of societies around the world. Once deployed, 3G wireless will be both the medium and the message."
Dr. Briancon joined InterDigital at the beginning of this year as Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer. He is responsible for providing technical guidance to InterDigital, incubating the development of leading edge technologies, products and services, participating as a key member of the team involved with the identification and forging of strategic relationships, and interacting with InterDigital standards teams.
Dr. Briancon added: "Second generation (2G) wireless products improved sound quality for consumers, network capacity for operators and the battery life of mobile devices. 3G is an open network of connections, providing far greater variety and functionality, from entertainment to life line support. InterDigital helped define 2G and is helping to invent 3G. We are leveraging our technologies and products to deliver on the promises of 3G."
Dr. Briancon brings to InterDigital a strong background in electrical engineering, semiconductor component design and wireless telecommunications applications. Throughout his career he has been involved in the development and introduction of new technologies and products. Much of his work has centered around the wireless telecommunications sector, with an emphasis on data communications. |
