One thing I forgot to mention from the AGM re the cost reduction
problem. Ballard has met (in fact exceeded) its first goal of
getting power/size to beat the current requirements for cars
(the most difficult of all Ballard's target applications).

Now they are focussing on cost. I asked Firoz Rasul at the AGM
directly, what the current situation was with regard to cost.
He said that the "100X too expensive" figure is a sort of standard
of what is do-able going from the 1st prototype to mass production.
More than that and the industry pundits begin to have doubts as
to whether or not it can be achieved. Now for the good part...

Although Ballard has mainly been focusing on size reduction to date,
they have actually reduced the cost as well, by a factor of 10,
already. This means, and Mr. Rasul confirmed this, that only a
further 10X reduction is now needed to meet the cost target.

By the way, the AGM had a very funny video of Jean Cretien driving
a Ballard bus, speeding up... and then they spliced in a scene from
"Speed" of a bus hurtling over a jump, across a chasm, and landing
on the other side with sparks a-flyin'... then back to a grinning
Jean Cretien...it brought the house down!

Garth.
