"actually, removal from the desktop of any icon doesn't affect the usage of the respective program ... the only thing that happens is that the icon on the desktop is gone .. the program is still available by going to start programs" the above statement is correct when the icon is a shortcut, which granted, most desktop icons are. you can tell it's a shortcut by the little curved arrow in the lower left of the icon. however, if it is not a shortcut (for example, if someone has elected to save a program or file to disk on the desktop), then deleting the icon will also delete the program or file. :) mark
