Mike, I was thinking about the $7.5B Intel capex spending being reiterated by them yesterday, even with their large belt tightening in discretionary spending (I know they are two different things) and I had mixed feelings about it.
1. Thought, good, things can't be that bad for Intel (Intel shareholder mindset).
2. Then, with book to bill down, I thought, why aren't those other chip houses pulling their weight along with Intel (AMAT shareholder mindset).
3. Well, if Intel's competitors don't want to guts it and spend the money soon on the new tools, they'll fall behind Intel in product speed, cost, etc. (Intel shareholder mindset).
Bottom line, I think it plays out well for Intel but the equips will be struggling this year, IMO.
Rambling on. Fernandez, are you kidding me? He looked old and fat in '86. Oh for that left handed pitcher, about the rarest thing in sports.
