Here's a recommendation: Writing Lyrics by Gottlieb and Kimball. Anthology of the best lyrics between 1910 and 1970 or so. Cole Porter, Irving Berlin, etc. Here's a part of little known one by Mort Dixon called Nagasaki:

In some pagoda
She orders soda,
The earth shakes milkshakes ten cents apiece,
They kissee and huggie nice,
By Jingo! It's worth the price,
Back in Nagasaki,
Where the fellers chew tobaccy,
And the women wicky wacky woo.
