AW ...

from time to time I lose cable connection ... happens much less now that the local cable co has a quarter of operation under its belt ... but co-incidentally happened yesterday AND today ....

my cable modem has four lights on the front ..

the top light signals "on line" ...
should it not be steady lit ..
I have no signal ....
and two of the others will be sporadically lit ...
the send and receive ones ....

when I'm getting streaming data if the send and receive ones aren't blinking ...
I'm not getting timely data ....

fwiw ...

a method which has always worked for me (provided I'm getting a tv signal) is

turn off computer
unplug power line to cable modem
wait at least one minute
pulg cable modem back to power
wait until all lights stop blinking and the top one (on line) is steady lit
power up computer ...

this resets the proxy settings internally inside my box and works ....
now that is Cox cable and a Terayon modem ...

Nemer
and it could well not be the same for yours
