OT.......Saranac Lake!!!! I was born in a small town on Lake Champlain called Westport and we moved to Saranac Lake when I was 14.I was just back there last Summer. The Adirondacks are beautiful and have many black bears!! There was a dump near Saranac Lake where people used to go and feed the bears from their cars. There were always some fool tourists that would get out of their cars and try to get pictures of themselves or kids near the bears!!! One night my father was throwing M&M's out from his small window in the front but he ran out of candy. The bear tried to shove his paw in the window!!!! My father would always keep the engine of the car running so we could make a fast get-a-way if we needed! That time we needed a fast exit!

My ex-husband's grandfather lived in a hunting cabin on the back side of Whiteface Mt. He was a wild old guy who was a big drunk at one time so he got the "toss" from his wife. One night in a drunken stupor he woke up in the middle of the night and saw a big black bear standing at his screen door. He grabbed his gun and shot it right there and went back to sleep. The next day he woke with a big hangover and he couldn't open his door cause he had a dead, foul-smelling, 700lb bear laying in front of his door!!!!!! He ended up taking out a window so he could go get help removing the bear! LOL

My Aunt had them hanging around her house.....the bears that is. I remember one night there was a bear trying to get into her woodshed when I was there at her house.. My father and two other men loaded us into cars as they guarded us with rifles! I'll never forget that!
